Our Environmental Charter

Travelling is about discovering, escaping, but also about grounding yourself in a territory and respecting its balance. Milling of Babel, We have chosen to combine hospitality and ecological commitment, with the idea that comfort and sustainability are not incompatible. Every decision we make is guided by a simple desire: to minimise our impact, while offering our guests a warm, authentic and revitalising stay.

We don't claim to be perfect, but we are moving forward, step by step, towards a model that is more respectful of nature and future generations. By choosing to stay here, you too are participating in this adventure.

Our commitments to sustainable and comfortable tourism

Accommodation designed to last

We prioritised reuse and recovery to fit out our spaces. Second-hand furniture, recycled or repurposed materials… Every object here has a story, and we are proud to give them a second life.

Limiting our footprint on water and energy

We know that lasting comfort comes from the sensible management of resources:

  • Drying laundry on indoor or outdoor clothes racks, drastically reducing the use of the tumble dryer and eliminating ironing.

  • Using low-energy appliances.

  • Water-saving systems, with low-flow taps.

  • Biodegradable and bulk cleaning products, for healthy and respectful cleanliness.

Comfort & Well-being

Because sleeping well and feeling well are essential, we have made the choice of uncompromising comfort:

  • Queen-size bed with a memory foam mattress topper for restful nights.

  • 100% cotton bed linen, washed with eco-friendly detergents and dried naturally on indoor or outdoor drying racks.

  • Gentle and controlled heat ... inserts and wood-burning stoves fuelled by our own wooded hills.

  • Ceiling fans, to cool in the summer and optimise heating in the winter.

Active travel

Discovering the local area in a different way, without noise and pollution, is possible and comfortable:

  • Classic and electric bike hire to adapt to all desires.

  • Suitable accessories Children's trailers, Follow Me, bicycle trailers, pet baskets, panniers…

Preservation of biodiversity

We have chosen to preserve the natural richness of our environment by letting nature reclaim its territory:

  • No pesticides or chemicals, to protect soils and wildlife.

  • Reasoned pruning and selective mowing, promoting biodiversity and pollinators.

  • Free-range spaces, where fallen trees are left in place to provide shelter for insects and animals.

  • Eco-grazing with Ouessant sheep, which naturally maintain the meadows.

  • LPO Refuge labelling in progress, to actively participate in the protection of local species.

Local sourcing & responsible consumption

We advocate for simple, local, and responsible food:

  • Little grocery store of Babel, offering short-chain products.

  • Returnable glass jars, prepared by chefs, for a no-waste, on-the-go meal.

  • Regional and bulk products, for more sustainable consumption.

  • A tasty path in creation, with edible fruit trees and old varieties.

  • Aromatic garden, where anyone can freely pick fresh herbs for cooking.

Zero waste & reducing plastic packaging

We are looking to minimise our waste as much as possible by favouring sustainable alternatives:

  • Composting food waste selective sorting, for responsible waste management.

  • Bulk toiletries, to avoid unnecessary packaging.

  • Plastic reduction, favouring glass, wood and other sustainable materials.

Conviviality & Sharing

More than just a place to stay, we want to offer an environment conducive to exchanges and simple moments.

  • Second-hand board and outdoor games, for moments of togetherness with family or friends.

  • An unspoilt natural setting, ideal for unwinding, slowing down, and reconnecting with what's essential.

Towards an even more sustainable future

We know that zero impact doesn't exist and that nothing is perfect. But we are moving forward, and here are our next objectives:

  • Replace our traditional septic tank with a constructed wetland system, for even more environmentally friendly water treatment.

  • Gradually improve the insulation of our buildings, in order to reduce our heating and air conditioning needs.

With you, we are moving towards more respectful tourism. Each stay with us is an opportunity to do better, to experience more sustainable alternatives and to share values that are close to our hearts. There's no need to be perfect; the important thing is to head in the right direction, one step at a time.
