When one thinks of Mont-Saint-Michel, one often imagines a day trip: a few hours spent visiting the Abbey and the narrow streets of the Mont before setting off again with a view to another emblematic location such as Saint-Malo, Dinan or Foug\u00e8res.<\/p>\n

Yet, between these major tourist sites stretches a territory rich in marshes, hedgerow country, forests, characterful villages and peaceful country lanes. These are these shortcuts<\/strong> which are rarely noticed when travelling quickly, but which often reveal another facet of the region.<\/p>\n

At the Moulin de Babel, we have gradually chosen to develop services that allow for car-free travel around Mont-Saint-Michel, allowing more space to unexpected discoveries and the detours that sometimes make the most beautiful memories.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rediscover the journey<\/h2>\n\n

Increasingly, we are seeing visitors who are looking for more than just accommodation. They want to take their time, enjoy the journey as much as the destination, and discover an area in a different way.<\/p>\n\n

The bicycle responds particularly well to this desire. Where a car allows one to quickly cross a region, a bicycle invites one to observe it. The landscapes, villages, markets or local producers then become an integral part of the journey.<\/p>\n\n

Around Mont-Saint-Michel, this approach makes perfect sense. Numerous discoveries await just a few kilometres from the major tourist sites.<\/p>\n\n

An ideal territory for travelling differently<\/h2>\n\n

Our geographical situation quickly made us aware of one thing: it is surprisingly easy to come here without a car.<\/p>\n\n

Pontorson train station provides access to the bay from Rennes, Paris or Nantes. Several major cycling routes also pass nearby, such as La R\u00e9galante, La V\u00e9lomaritime and La V\u00e9losc\u00e9nie.<\/p>\n\n

Yet, many travellers don't imagine it to be possible to organise a complete trip without a personal vehicle.<\/p>\n\n

Apply brakes<\/h2>\n\n

The questions often come up:<\/p>\n\n

  • How to transport luggage?<\/li>\n\n
  • How do I get to my accommodation from the station?<\/li>\n\n
  • How to travel with children?<\/li>\n\n
  • How to organise a route without having to return to the same place?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

    It is to meet these needs that we have gradually developed various services: electric and trekking bike hire, bike delivery to Pontorson station, luggage transport to the g\u00eete, equipment for families, itinerary suggestions, and picnic baskets for day trips.<\/p>\n\n

    Travellers arriving by train and staying for at least two nights can also benefit from discounts on bicycle hire.<\/p>\n\n

    The aim is simple: to make cycle touring accessible to people who might never have dared to embark on it alone.<\/p>\n\n

    A different way to discover Mont-Saint-Michel<\/h2>\n\n

    Le Mont-Saint-Michel often remains the main motivation for visitors staying in the region.<\/p>\n\n

    Yet, many tell us after their stay that their best memories aren't necessarily found on the site itself.<\/p>\n\n

    They recall a small, hedgerow-lined road where the Mont first appeared on the horizon. A picnic by a pond. A market discovered by chance. A meeting with a local producer or a heron spotted in the marshes.<\/p>\n\n

    The journey then becomes a succession of discoveries rather than a simple displacement between two points.<\/p>\n\n

    A coherent project with the Tower of Babel Mill<\/h2>\n\n

    Car-free tourism fits naturally into the history of Moulin de Babel.<\/p>\n\n

    The g\u00eetes, bike rentals, gourmet hampers, nature walks, and our various local partnerships all contribute to the same idea: taking the time to discover a region.<\/p>\n\n

    A time to observe, to share, to explore, and to meet people.<\/p>\n\n

    Travelling without a car, simply<\/h2>\n\n

    Contrary to popular belief, travelling without a car is not just for the sporty or adventurous.<\/p>\n\n

    Thanks to electric bikes, luggage transport, and suitable equipment, it is now possible to discover the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel at your own pace, even without any particular experience of multi-day touring.<\/p>\n\n

    At its heart, what we're looking to encourage isn't just another way to move, but another way to travel.<\/p>\n\n

    Getting off the train, collecting your bike, dropping off your luggage and starting your holiday. What if the journey began on the way there?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n
